1. The Jeremiah 25:26 reference names Sheshach, a Biblical use of Atbash. That tells us to pair the first Hebrew letter with the last, the second with the next-to-last, and so forth.
2. The ciphertext is ספהוצ. Apply the five Atbash swaps: ס→ח, פ→ו, ה→צ, ו→פ, and צ→ה.
3. The result is חוצפה. Written with English letters, that is CHUTZPAH.

1. On a phone keypad, “jump the five” means swap keys across the center: 0↔5, 1↔9, 2↔8, 3↔7, and 4↔6.

4. Decode the bytes as ASCII. “the challenge is m3g4d34th.”

1. In Audacity, import both tracks, invert one with Effect → Invert, then use Tracks → Mix → Mix and Render. This subtracts one waveform from the other.
2. The only useful difference is a short spoken segment around 1:02, you can see the audio spike. Boost the volume.

Break out of echo's double-quoted argument, execute cat /flag.txt, and use a shell comment to neutralize the remaining pipeline.

The sink

container/app/execd.py:344 constructs a shell command by concatenating the transcribed query into this command shape:

Because the query is placed directly inside double quotes, a dictated double quote can terminate the argument and expose the rest of the input to the shell parser.

What sed is doing

The fixed sed expression normalizes runs of spaces. It is a plausible relay formatter for a voice bot that reads the message back, but it is not the injection target.

• A bare semicolon is inert while it remains inside echo's double quotes. Text such as ; cat flag.txt is merely echoed.
• The sed program is fixed and single-quoted, so the query cannot modify it.
• After breaking out of the double quotes, the remaining " | sed ... text must be neutralized. Otherwise, the unmatched quote causes a shell syntax error before the injected command runs.

The payload

The resulting shell line is:

1. echo "alpha" runs normally.
2. The semicolon ends the echo command.
3. cat /flag.txt prints the flag to standard output.
4. The hash begins a shell comment, discarding the unmatched quote and the entire sed pipeline.
5. The execution service returns the output, allowing the edge TTS service to read the flag back to the caller.

An alternative is to rebalance the quotes:

In that version, sed runs only on the final empty echo, because the pipe binds to the last command in the command list. The output from cat still reaches standard output untouched.

Why the filter does not stop it

The filter at execd.py:153 blocks traversal, backticks, and command substitution:

BLOCKED_SUBSTRINGS = ("..", "`", "$(")

It does not block the characters needed for this attack: ;, |, &, ", #, and /. Directory traversal is unnecessary because the flag is available at:

• /flag.txt
• /home/whackfaction/flag.txt

The latter path is also inside the process working directory, so cat flag.txt works without an absolute path.

Over the phone

Every required character appears in the persona's spoken-symbol table at edge/src/persona.js:133. Dictate:

alpha double quote semicolon cat slash flag dot t x t hash

SpyBot converts the spoken symbol names into literal characters, producing alpha" ; cat /flag.txt #. Omitting the final hash leaves the generated shell line with an unmatched quote, causing the syntax error shown in the transcript panel.

1. Connect to the supplied NNTP service on port 3091, authenticate, list groups, and inspect alt.binaries.movies. The NFO for Rat.Race.2001.DVDRip.XviD-CTFGRP says pieces are damaged and asks for PAR2 recovery posts.
2. Download every yEnc body for the RAR set plus the PAR2 index and recovery volumes. Decode the yEnc bodies into their original files.
3. Run par2 repair on the set, then extract the repaired RAR volumes with the password printed in the NFO. This produces the recovered video.
4. Near the bottom of the recovered video, a caption reads “the squirrel sign points nowhere.”

Identify the key text

1. Nicolas Coppola is actor Nicolas Cage's birth name.
2. The clue about finding the world's greatest treasure points to Cage's film National Treasure.
3. That film uses the Silence Dogood letters and an Ottendorf, or book, cipher. The required key is Silence Dogood essay No. 1, printed in The New-England Courant in 1722.
4. The instruction to use an original scan matters: printed line wrapping is part of the cipher and a modern transcription will have different line breaks.

Interpret the coordinates

Read every coordinate as page-line-letter, using one-based numbering. On page 1, line 1 begins “It may not be improper”; do not count the heading or “SIR” as lines. Page 2 begins “Misfortune, which tho'”. Within each line, remove spaces, punctuation, and hyphens, then count letters only. Do not rejoin a word that is split across two printed lines.

1. Open the CacheSleuth Book Cipher Decoder linked below.
2. Paste the scan-faithful text into Book Text. Put ---PAGE--- between the two pages.
3. Paste the 21 hyphenated coordinates into Codes.
4. Set Part 1 to Page number, Part 2 to Line number, and Part 3 to Character number.
5. Set numbering to begin at 1 and ignore non-letter characters.

If an online decoder treats the last number as a word number, counts spaces, or reflows the source, it cannot solve this instance correctly.

Recognize the mechanic

1. This is the challenge that was unsolvable the last year!
2. The year 1992 points to the original Mortal Kombat, while the phrase “finish him” points specifically to Fatality commands.
3. The four lower portraits are Johnny Cage, Kano, Sub-Zero, and Raiden. Their left-to-right order determines the order of the extracted letters.
4. For each fighter, find the same portrait in the upper board and use that portrait as the starting cell.
